My Professional Story
in the beginning...
It all started in 1999. Education runs in my blood. I took my first job at my mom's early learning center as an after school aid. I had no idea where the road would take me. I didn't even have a plan. But, it was here where the roots began to grow in learning and development. My destiny was always to teach, empower, encourage, and inspire. It just came natural to me. Turns out these gifts from above would carry me through both the obstacles and later successes that lay ahead.
The wilderness...
With a plethora of statistical odds against me, I would receive a Bachelors in education as first generation college graduate. Following this accomplishment, I explored several educational settings: traditional, non-traditional, private, and public. These experiences led me to have a great interest in the brain. I wanted to study how we learn, what the best strategies were to support learning, how we can change our thought processes and how to maximize learning & development. Enrolling in graduate school along with becoming a licensed brain trainer was a just what I needed to quench my thirst for learning about learning, but the story continues....
the promise land
I have always felt in my heart that I had so much more to give than what my past professional experiences had to offer. Although I am incredibly fortunate for my experiences and I give them tremendous credit for shaping me, I often felt limited professionally. What I truly love is people and their stories, technology, education, and lots of data! So, making the shift to Learning & Design just made sense. The L&D career offers me all the things I love in both my personal and professional life- People, Education, Systems, Research, & technology.
Today, I call myself a learning theory enthusiast and subject matter expert in learning design and development. My journey through learning always seems to open new doors for more learning and growing. At the end of the day, who I really am is just a li girl with the intrinsic motivation to pursue life long learning.
